Going to Brushstroke changed my life! Everyone is friendly and approachable and are fountains of knowledge. I first went to do the 4 month media makeup course, I then went back six years later to study hair cutting and stayed to do some more prosthetics. The training is by far the best you can find!

You don’t just learn the skills, you learn how to be in the working environment, learn about being self employed and all elements of the industry.

Since leaving I have gone to do various jobs including tv, theatre, publications and a job in which I create injuries on people for the military and emergency services training! In doing this job the survival rate in Afghanistan went up 67%. It is a job I have been proud to have done, helping to save lives. If it wasn’t for the amazing training that I got from Brushstrokes I would not have been able to do any of these.

Brushstroke still like to hear from you after you have left and will send jobs your way when they have them. The after care is by far some of the best! I was asked to do something for the military and wasn’t 100% sure on the best way to achieve this, luckily I knew I could ring Brushstroke and they helped with advice.

When I went back 6 years after my original course, I was pleasantly surprised when many of the tutors remembered me and where genuinely interested in what I had been doing.

I cannot express the level of skills that your learn from everyone at Brushstroke! The Knowledge they all have in different aspects of the industry is phenomenal. No question is too small and they are all wanting to help you achieve the best you can.

During my last course I was allowed to go into the classrooms early and leave late, which to me was such a great help and even more enjoyable as I was getting longer to be able to try each hair cut out and practice more as I am very much someone that likes to keep practicing new skills.

All in all I could not have wished for anything better! The tutors, environment, skills learnt, everyone at Brushstroke, they genuinely want to help and do all they can to do so!

2 Year BTEC Make-up Course 2014 – I am currently studying on the Two Year BTEC Professional Make-up and Hair Course, which was the best decision I have made after starting at a local college which wasn’t for me. The standard of training is excellent and the tutors are all experienced professionals that are always happy to pass on their knowledge, tips and tricks.  So far, I have been given various work placements within the industry which have all been excellent experiences. This has helped build my confidence in my work and had also been a great way to make contacts. I love the friendly but professional atmosphere within the school and feel assured that once I have finished my course that Brushstroke will always be there to help me. I would highly recommend the Brushstroke Two Year BTEC Course for anybody looking for the best training in professional make-up and hair.

September 2014 to May 2015 – 9 months ago I gave up a career in digital marketing, putting all my eggs in one basket to embark on a new career in hair and makeup artistry… And what a great decision it has been. Starting with the actual course… It was perfect for what I wanted. We covered everything from wig making, to prosthetics, to high fashion and right back to periods. The class was small enough that you would get loads of one to one teaching from our tutors but big enough to learn new things from our fellow students. Everyone had something to contribute which made learning super interesting. Next is the great office team. Whatever we needed you would all help. Nothing was ever a problem and was always met with a smile. You guys also provided us with a number of great opportunities for work. In my time I worked with the BBC, Toni and guy and David Stoneman to name a few, all before I left the course. Finally the teachers you guys bring in. They are truly amazing. They are all currently working and but most importantly working on very high profile productions. I cannot tell you how much I have learnt from them all and will be eternally grateful. What is also amazing is that they are happy to help you jump on to the career ladder. Happy for you to contact them and always happy to help. Thanks again guys for an amazing 9 months. It’s been the best move I ever made.

2 Year BTEC Make-up Course 2013 – I finished Brushstroke Makeup School almost a year ago now and i would recommend it to anyone. The training is amazing and they have everything you could ever need from 1000’s of wigs to an HD camera room, but i would have to say the best thing about brushstroke is the staff! I still get job offers from them regularly and the support is always there if i need them. Thanks to them i haven’t been out of work since and if i ever need help learning anything they are more than happy for me to come back. The teachers are all of the highest standard and are all still currently working in the industry which helps a lot! The worse thing about my course is having to leave!

17th March 2015 – I just wanted to say thank you for recommending the students that you did for the production of Madam Butterfly at the Albert Hall. They were all outstanding and I wouldn’t hesitate to employ them on my team in the future.  They’re motivated, aware and sharp – and also a real pleasure to have around. I recommended them to my friend who supervises the wig department at ENO, and so at least one of them will be going to work on the forthcoming Sweeney Todd production. Thank you again and I hope I can offer similar opportunities to your students in the future.

9th February 2015 – We at Dixsy magazine wanted to thank you for helping us and introducing us to Amanda Briggs. Just as you said, Amanda is a true professional and fantastic make up/hair artist and we were very lucky to have worked with her. Amanda knew exactly what we wanted and just got on with the job to perfection and worked incredibly well under pressure and delivered every time. Also her personality is wonderful and professional and works super hard. We hope Amanda enjoyed working with us and we hope to give her loads of brilliant tear sheets for her portfolio! Thank you once again for your kind help, very much appreciated.

It’s rare you come across the kind of professionalism and friendly approach Brushstroke offer. We contacted Louise to help recommend make-up artists for a modelling shoot. Two top students were sent our way. We were so impressed with how they fitted straight in with our team, were professional with the models on set, and did a great job in an unpredictable shooting situation. The Brushstroke team and students come with my highest recommendation.

We’re glad to have worked with Brushstroke over the past few years because of their professional, reliable and prompt service in providing make up artists that cater to our needs and requirements perfectly. As specialists in booking and hiring out acts and performers for a large variety of corporate and private events, we needed make up artists who were creative, hard working and adaptable – Brushstroke were everything we could have asked for and more.

May 2014 – The Imperial College School of Medicine RAG Fashion Show is an event that is highly anticipated and continuously successful in fundraising for different charities every year. The ladies at Brushstroke were a very strong presence at this year’s show, creating make up looks that made the models look and feel a million dollars!

The team of make-up/hair artists worked professionally and efficiently to ensure that all the models were perfectly made up well in time for the show and were then on-hand for any touch ups that were needed throughout the evening. It was obvious how much experience these ladies had, as they quickly made the illustrated looks into a reality, making each model as striking as the next, ensuring that on the catwalk the audience wouldn’t be able to take their eyes off them! Excellent feedback was received from both the cast of the show and from the audience members, with each model loving their new look and wanting to be able to recreate it at home.

I would highly recommend the team from Brushstroke for their professionalism and their skill in make-up artistry. They are extremely capable and will successfully work with you to create exactly the look that you want. I will certainly be contacting them again for next year’s show.

December 2012 to August 2013 – Serendipity played its part in me enrolling in Brushstroke and wow am I pleased it did! I had thoroughly researched the different courses available in London and much further afield for months, trudging off to different makeup schools and returning in disappointment knowing they just weren’t for me. A day off from work feeling unwell, I lay on the sofa surfing the internet and hit upon Brushstroke purely by chance. Within days of finding them I had viewed, enrolled and started what was to be a life changing course.

Originally I thought that for a complete beginner with no makeup experience a nine month course would not be long enough to give me a great foundation, but I was very wrong. Studying at Brushstroke was an easy choice to make; the small intimate classes lead by talented industry professionals, extensive and challenging course content, practical based learning and the general buzz and friendliness of the studio and staff made it a simple decision to make. Finishing my course did feel a bit daunting, not because I lacked confidence or skills but because I did not want my time there to end. However, maintaining constant contact with the academy has made my transition from student to professional Hair and Makeup Artist that much easier with their incredible aftercare. Brushstroke will always have a place in my heart and I would recommend this course to anybody wanting to pursue a career in makeup. Thank you Brushstroke! 9 month ITEC Professional Make-up and Hair Course.

January 2014 – The Football League Show has established a strong working relationship with Brushstroke Makeup School over the last 3 years, having used their trainees on our weekly show since 2011. Always friendly and easy to work with, the makeup artists have offered a reliable, prompt and professional service and have had good on-set etiquette while on the studio floor. They have also adapted easily to our varying requirements and have been quick to establish good working relationships with our talent. All qualities that we expect from industry professionals.

September 2012 to June 2013 – I loved my time at Brushstroke, the techniques and skills I learnt were invaluable and have kept me in work and busy since I left in June 2013. The teachers are great and all teach to their specific subjects areas, which helped me develop my skills and confidence throughout the 9months. I was given real, honest advice about the TV/film industry and how to utilise my skills and abilities once I left. Louise and the office gave me work experience throughout the course which allowed me to make the contacts I needed, some of which I am still working alongside now. Best of all – I met some great friends along the way. Some of the productions I have recently worked on include: The Honourable Woman BBC 2 Drama, The Ark- BBC, Bad Education BBC 3 and  The Football League Show BBC1.

3 month Fashion and 4month Media 2006 & Returned for Airbrushing Refresher in July 2013 – Thank you for my awesome time at Brushstroke, I did the 4 month media and 3 month high fashion course back in 2006.I found both courses to be fun and interesting and Brushstroke gave me all the key skills I needed to leave feeling confident to go out into the make- up industry and be successful.

On my last day of the course I received a phone call to start work on a Channel 4 TV series called Codex and I have not stopped working since. I have been lucky enough to work on many music videos with artists such as Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Mcfly, Emma Bunton, Matt Willis, Bodyrox and the Saturdays. A lot of my career has been focused on editorial work and I have worked for Look, In Style, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Gratzia, Attitude, Tatler and many newspaper fashion supplements including News of the World and the Guardian, also worked on a couple of books including Gok Wan’s how to dress (I actually have my photo with him printed in the book! As well as editorial and music videos I also have also done advertising and commercial work for companies such as River Island, All Saints, Nike, Sheila’s Wheels, Nivea, Sony, Clarkes shoes, Lynx and Cos clothes Even though I finished my courses seven years ago Brushstroke were kind enough to allow me to come back and refresh my airbrush skills, even as a qualified make-up artist coming back I still learnt lots of new tips and techniques from the tutors who were fantastic.

Every time I come back to the studios I always find everyone friendly, helpful and they always give you the support you need to further your make- up career. I would highly recommend Brushstroke to anyone who wants to be a professional make-up artist. Thank you again for everything! Best wishes
