The Brushstroke Make-up and Hair School is validated by the QCA to offer the BTEC Edexcel and ITEC Qualifications.
Our Two Year Professional Intensive Make-up and Hair Course, follows the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Production Arts for Make-up. This incorporates all aspects of make-up for film, TV, theatre and fashion, as well as production workshops and assignments throughout the two years. This qualification when completed in full is equivalent to two A- Levels.
The Nine Month Professional Make-up and Hair Course follows the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Make-up and our One Year Hairdressing and Barbering course follows the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing and Barbering.
Students on the Three Year Make-up and Hair Course work towards a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Production Arts for Make-up on the Two Year Professional Intensive Course followed by One Year ITEC Level 2 in Hairdressing and Barbering.
These hair and make-up qualifications are offered to students so that they will leave Brushstroke with our own highly recognised certificate of attendance and subjects covered and the validation of an awarding body, making sure that standards are always current and acceptable within the industry.

The second portfolio includes 30 looks which should be a mix of your work show casing all of your make-up skills. ITEC issues guidelines on what to expect within this portfolio, however there is flexibility within the list.
Students will be required to perform two practical assessments, consisting of the following make-ups.

Students must gain a minimum of a “pass” in all units to be awarded the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Fashion Theatre and Media Make-up. Should a student be unsuccessful in any area, they will be “referred” and given the opportunity to retake the unit they have not passed.

BTEC is the Business and Technology Education Council, a British Awarding Body for Vocational Qualifications, simply known as BTEC. BTEC qualifications are undertaken in vocational subjects and are equivalent to other qualifications such as the GCSE (levels 1 to 2), A Level (level 3) and university degrees (levels 4 to 7).
The Level 3 BTEC qualifications – accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) – and the Edexcel Level 3 attract UCAS points. UCAS Points can count towards entry to degree and higher education programmes.
The BTEC is not an examination based qualification and does not require students to take any formal written exams.
The BTEC qualification runs alongside your Brushstroke course as the BTEC requirements are met within the syllabus of the Two Year Professional Intensive Make-up and Hair Course. The BTEC Level 3 National diploma is a unit based qualification, 2 units per term, where students are continually assessed on their practical skills and coursework/portfolios.
Portfolios should be put together in your own private study hours, we recommend students use Fridays as private study days, students are welcome to use the Brushstroke facilities during this time. Supplementary classes and tutorials can be held for those students who need extra guidance.
Please note the order in which these units is taught may change. The Edexcel website www.edexcel.com contains useful information which is accessible to students.
Students who successfully complete the Two Year Professional Intensive Media Make-up and Hair Course will leave with both a Brushstroke certificate of attendance and a BTEC Level 3 Qualification in Production Arts.
Students can decide on how many units of the BTEC they complete, however Brushstroke recommends that all students study for the full 12 units in order to gain a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Production Arts which is equivalent to 2 A Levels.
Those who decide to study 6 units will receive a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma- equivalent to 1.5 A Levels or those studying 3 units will receive a BTEC certificate equivalent to 1 A level.
Having successfully completed the Two Year course, students have the option to train for a further year on the One Year Hairdressing and Barbering Course which follows the ITEC Level 2 Hairdressing and Barbering syllabus.
