Two Year Film Makeup and Hair Academy

This two year course that teaches cinema makeup, trains students the very high standard of makeup and hair artistry techniques that are expected within the film industry by chief makeup designers.

Those who complete the full training can always veer towards television and fashion.

This course is aimed at those persons requiring a much greater and gradual introduction to the art of makeup artistry. Being the longest of Brushstroke courses, it assures the training required for those needing a wider duration of subject matter, and those wishing to establish themselves wholly within cinema makeup artistry. It is designed for dedicated students who have a passionate interest for the film, television and fashion industry.

A two year course allows students extended practising hours, hands on every day as well as covering additional techniques. (18 months actual training with academically structured term times which would otherwise make the course a two year duration).

Training within a film studio for two years means that students have the opportunity to build potential contacts, and experience what it is like to be within this working environment, as Brushstroke make on average three work placements a week. Throughout the course students are assessed in practical assignments, self- presentation and attitude.

We prefer prospective students to have 3 GCSE passes preferably in English, History, Art or equivalent qualification. Students must be willing to learn and have good communication skills.

Brushstroke makes sure that students produce good portfolio evidence, and are able to work with a professional photographer in his photographic studio or Brushstroke makeup rooms, and have the ability to work with models from professional model agencies (subject to their availability)

Please note that the photographer operates independently from Brushstroke. All booking must be made prior to commencement date of the course. We also highly recommended that students take their own photos, preferably with a digital camera, for their own references.

Please remember that all course work is covered and that Brushstroke reserve the right to change the course syllabus and alternate terms, purely for the benefit of the students. This can be due to the ‘industry’ as we may be called upon by productions that require students who have and are currently training at Brushstroke to utilise their skills on set.

Term breaks (holidays) are allocated whilst courses are on. Please note that breaks may not always match other colleges and length of term times may alter. Should the course fall on any public holidays, these shall be taken as days off.

Past students have acted as ambassadors for our company and have carved solid careers for themselves in many different forms of media. From broadcast television and film to popular high fashion publications. Students will be held on our agency books as we are called upon from time to time to provide makeup artists with various levels of experience
