CHERAINE BELL
Principal

Cheraine Bell has worked for twenty two years within the industry. During this time she has worked with many artists on films, television and numerous commercials. Some of the actors she has worked with include Spike Milligan, John Cleese, John Hurt, James Wilby, Steve Martin, Jim Davidson, Michael Caine and Michael Palin.

Cheraine has her teaching qualification and assessors certificate (NVQ). Over the years she has realised that it is necessary to extend the Brushstroke School to incorporate a nine-month and two year full-time course as well as a high fashion course at a realistic price, knowing that students can expect to pay higher prices elsewhere for shorter and less intensive courses.

Cheraine employs active BBC, Thames Television, feature films and international fashion makeup artists. also NVQ assessors and other guest professionals, in order to continue the high success rate that she has had with previous students. Cheraine has also appeared on many television shows such as Jim Davidson’s Generation Game and Open House with Gloria Hunniford as a guest professional to talk about and demonstrate makeup. Also World Wide Radio.

 

JAMES ANDA
Fashion and Media Make Up Artist

James’ work to date has led him to work with over 500 photographers throughout the world. His work has featured in catalogues such as GUS, Freemans, French Elle and Louis Vuitton. He has also designed the makeup for Wella and Whirlpool 2000, for commercials world-wide. Amongst the magazines he has worked for are Elle, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Pulp, Tank, French Virgin, Mexican Vogue and Marie Clare. His work has featured at fashion shows in Paris for Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier and he has also been teaching at the biggest television company in the world in Mexico City –Televisa– for more than 5 years. In 2003 and 2004 James was a guest speaker at the European Make Up Artist Trade Show in London.

 

ANITA PERRET
Make Up Designer

Anita has been working in the television industry since 1978. After training with Thames Television she moved on to become a makeup assistant and then a makeup artist working in television drama, light entertainment and children's programmes, on such programmes as: Rumpole of the Bailey, Hannay, The Bill, Des O’Connor, This is your Life, Morecambe and Wise, Benny Hill, and many more.

She went freelance in 1990 and credits as a makeup Designer since then include: See It Saw It, An Evening with Ira Gershwin, Chicago, Get Real, Uncensored and Oddballs. 
As well as extensive industrial experience Anita has also gained various teaching qualifications such as the Certificate in Education, and a B.A. (Hons) in Post Compulsory Education, as well as various National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) assessor awards.

 

ANABELA DALLOT-SEGURO
Make Up Designer

Anabela joined the BBC in 1978 as a makeup trainee for two years and remained with the company until 1993 working on such productions as; Only Fools & Horses, Casualty, Black Adder, Top Of The Pops, News & Sports, House Of Elliot, & Children In Need. Since 1993 she has been freelancing with many television companies. A few of the productions are; That’s Life, The Esther Series 1- V111, In Search Of The Brontes, Chelsea Flower Show, Test The Nation, The British Comedy Awards, Sky News & Sports, Silent Witness & Watchdog. Television commercials include; Accident Advice Helpline Childline.

 

BARNEY NIKOLIC
Special Effects

My name is Branimir Nikolic, known as Barney. I have been working successfully as a professional makeup artist for the past 20 years. I acted as head makeup artist at the State Theatre in Hanover, Germany for a period of 4 years and have since then been working within Europe as a freelance artist, creating special FX makeup and constructing masks for a wide range of projects. I lecture regularly at the international makeup artistry seminars held in Cologne, Germany demonstrating the skills of special FX makeup and have myself profited from numerous FX courses, in particular by Nick Dudman, UK (Star Wars, Harry Potter) in which I have participated. Barney teaches a wide range of subjects on all our courses, some of which includes makeup special effects, hair work, prosthetics and wig making.

 

ANDREW DEUBERT
Special Effects

The special effects elements of our courses provide you with a general knowledge of the techniques that you will be called upon to use in the future. There are many materials that you will be using, some of which can be dangerous, others are harmless; how you use these substances is critical.

Andrew Duebert's career started with work on commercials and low budget videos, the first of which was the Hamlets (Frankenstein) commercial, where he produced the monster’s makeup. Whilst working at Coast to Coast, he took over many aspects of Max Headroom’s production, making the foams, mould and fibreglass jackets. He also developed a female version. After moving to the BBC Visual Effects Department he was asked to develop Kryton, a comical robot character from Red Dwarf. After doing life casts, Andrew manufactured all the prosthetic foams and various related props for the series. Other projects include Mortimer and Arabelle, Magic House, and numerous sets, prosthetics and animatronics using such diverse materials as plaster, dental acrylic, jelly, rubber sheeting, string, washing-up liquid, silicon and many,  many more.

 

MARELLA SHEARER
Hair And Make Up Designer

Started her career as a makeup trainee with LWT for two years. During her time there she worked on a wide variety of programmes including comedy, variety and drama. Rising through the ranks to become a supervisor, she left to join the freelance world in 1985.

She has designed programmes as varied as “Drop the Dead Donkey”, “Vicar of Dibley”, “French and Saunders”, “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme”, “Dead Ringers”, “Graham Norton”, ”Bodicca”, ”Crime and Punishment”, Casualty” and “Foyle’s War”. She has also worked on several music shows including "Search for a Star” and the “MTV Awards”.

 

DEBBIE KORRIE
Make Up artist

Debbie has worked for over 14 years as a makeup artist in the fashion industry. Debbie has worked as a personal makeup artist to many celebrities and also her experience covers editorial fashion, beauty and advertising. Some of Debbie's clients have included BBC, IPC magazines, EMAP, Elan, Sony, Colgate, Patek Phillipe, Conde Nast, Wella, National Magazine Co., Talk back Productions and Associated Newspapers.

 

MILO SABARIZ
Hair Cutting, Hair Extensions and Fashion Hair

Milo has worked for nearly 20 years in the hairdressing industry. Coming from a family of hairdressers, he has covered different areas in the field such as fashion shows and professional ateliers as expert in hair-up and haircutting.

The last years have seen him in the environment of the main international hair companies, focusing on editorial, catwalk, and international education, together with the work as hairstylist for Thames Television.

 

RACHEL PRING
Make Up and Hair Artist

Rachel has worked in the film, theatre and television industry for ten years. She started in theatre with productions including: Mme Butterfly – Welsh National Opera; Wind In The Willows – Old Vic London; Sunset Boulevard – Adelphi Theatre; Cats The Musical – New London; Les Miserables – Palace Theatre. Film work has included: Cats The Movie – with Elaine Page; Leprechauns – with Whoopi Goldberg; Warbrides – with Anna Friel; RKO 281 with Melanie Griffith.

Rachel has worked on The Big Breakfast for two years as Denise Van Outen’s personal hair and make up artist, and whilst there she worked with hundreds of celebrities including Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman and Rosanne Barr. Rachel became Rosanne’s personal make up artist for her London appearances.

Other T.V. work has included, So Graham Norton; Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie, MTV and is currently working on ‘V’ Graham Norton.

Fashion And Editorial. Rachel worked exclusively with designer Wayne Hemingway for 2 years and her work has regularly featured in ‘OK’ Magazine.

 

CARLA VILJOEN
Fashion Make Up Artist

Carla is a fashion and beauty make-up artist who is often requested to work with UK and US celebrities such as Dustin and Lisa Hoffman, Terry Gilliam, Lynda Carter, Danielle Lloyd, Edith Bowman, Gordon Ramsay etc. Her work can be seen in many magazine publications such as Tank, Glamour, Grazia, Sunday Express Magazine and other magazine houses.

Carla shoots for M&S Per Una regularly as well as many other campaigns such as American Airlines, Samsung, Hitachi, Shell and BT.

 

SHELLEY KING
Wig Mistress, Hair and Make Up Artist

Shelly has been working in the industry for 13 years. She has held position of wig mistress for the past five years on West End productions that include “The Phantom of the Opera” “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and “My Fair Lady”. Shelly has continually worked in other areas of the industry with Television and film dailies such as “Blue Peter” and “Amazing Grace”. Her photographic work includes the “Chicago” posters, working with “David Hasselhoff” “Duncan James” and many others.

 

Bernhard Klinglmair
Make Up Artist and Airbrush Make Up Artist

I have worked for 21 years to date in the make up artist industry and have been through almost all parts in it, including Fashion Shows in Milan and Paris for Jil Sander, Jean Paul Gaultier, Bogner and Yamamoto to name a few. When I started doing make up I worked for Estee Lauder in Vienna and USA, also as a Custom Blend Foundation and Powder Specialist for Prescriptives in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. After moving from Austria to Germany I helped launch Shu Uemura in Munich, Stuttgart and Cologne.

I was trained with Airbrush make up in Los Angeles, CA, and have worked with airbrush make up on all my commercial Films, Music Videos and Feature Films and TV.I have worked as personal make up artist for celebrities in the music business in Germany, photo shoots for Cosmopolitan, Elle, Fit for Fun, Catalogues, Commercials in Print and Film for Mercedes Benz, Telekom, Lexus, BMW and many more.I did the make up for 2 exhibitions for photographers with celebrity actors and musicians in Berlin. I have also worked on some Musicals and Operas in Berlin and at the Bregenz Festivals in Austria too (Principal Maria at Porgy and Bess).
